En Angleterre, une nouvelle formation voit le jour,<!--more--> elle se compose d&rsquo;anciens musiciens des <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Bluesbreakers<\/strong><\/em><\/span> de <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><em>John Mayall<\/em><\/strong><\/span>, du <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Graham Bond Organisation<\/strong><\/em><\/span> et du <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>New Jazz Orchestra<\/strong><\/em><\/span> de <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Georgie Fame<\/strong><\/em><\/span>. Ces musiciens poss\u00e8dent la technique, la virtuosit\u00e9 et surtout l&rsquo;envie de cr\u00e9er une musique diff\u00e9rente. Un condens\u00e9 de Rock, de Blues, de musique de chambre et de Jazz. En quelque sorte, une musique sans barri\u00e8re de style, dans laquelle chacun peut s&rsquo;exprimer \u00e0 sa guise, une musique plus libre, plus improvis\u00e9e, une sorte de fusion de diff\u00e9rentes expressions musicales, au service d&rsquo;une nouvelle entit\u00e9. Son envie, m\u00ealer la subtilit\u00e9 du Jazz, \u00e0 la puissance brutale du Rock. De nombreux critiques, consid\u00e8rent\u00a0le groupe comme le pr\u00e9curseur, et l&rsquo;influenceur majeur du Rock Progressif des ann\u00e9es 70. Tr\u00e8s rapidement, <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Colosseum<\/strong><\/span> se forge une\u00a0 r\u00e9putation de live band, et attire de plus en plus de fid\u00e8les \u00e0 ses concerts. Apr\u00e8s la signature d&rsquo;un contrat avec la maison de disque <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Vertigo<\/strong><\/span>, le groupe sort en <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>1969<\/strong><\/span> son premier album, l&rsquo;excellent <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong>\u00ab\u00a0Those Who Are About To Die Salute You\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong><\/em><\/span>. Tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rent du pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent, la seconde face ne contient qu&rsquo;un morceau de plus de seize minutes <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong>\u00ab\u00a0The\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Valentyne Suite\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>devenu un classique instantan\u00e9,<i>\u00a0<\/i>qui \u00e0 lui seul, vaut l&rsquo;achat du disque. J&rsquo;ai d\u00e9couvert ce disque \u00e0\u00a0seize ans, sur les conseils de mon prof d&rsquo;anglais de seconde, au lyc\u00e9e Jacques Decour \u00e0 Paris, et je dois dire que j&rsquo;ai us\u00e9 le vinyle.\u00a0 Le solo de <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Jon Hiseman<\/strong><\/span> sur le dernier morceau, m&rsquo;explosait la t\u00eate. Il reste \u00e0 ce jour un de mes chorus de batterie\u00a0pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9s, plus impressionnant encore que celui de <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Ginger Baker<\/strong><\/em><\/span> dans <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Toad<\/strong><\/em><\/span>, sur le <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Wheels Of Fire<\/strong><\/em><\/span> de <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Cream<\/strong><\/em><\/span>, plus ramass\u00e9, plus puissant, un vrai feu d&rsquo;artifices. Mais ce titre est anecdotique, et ne repr\u00e9sente en rien l&rsquo;image de cet album, o\u00f9 l&rsquo;on retrouve du Jazz, du Rock, du Blues, et de la musique de chambre, tout un ensemble d&rsquo;ambiances riches et vari\u00e9s, qui conf\u00e8rent \u00e0 <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u00ab\u00a0Daughter Of Time\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong><\/span> une image progressive bien \u00e0 part de\u00a0celle v\u00e9hicul\u00e9e traditionnellement par ce genre de musique, souvent tr\u00e8s froide, factice, exhibitionniste, outranci\u00e8re et pompeuse. Derni\u00e8res informations, avant de passer \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9coute du disque, comme je vous l&rsquo;ai dit plus haut, <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Mark Clarke<\/strong><\/span> ne joue que sur trois morceaux,\u00a0pour les autres, c&rsquo;est <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Louis Cennamo<\/strong><\/span>, bassiste de <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Renaissance<\/strong><\/em><\/span>. Derni\u00e8re petite chose, sur certains morceaux on peut entendre un orchestre de chambre, il s&rsquo;agit de <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Derek Wadsworth<\/strong><\/span> trombone, <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Harold Beckett<\/strong> <\/span>trompette et fl\u00fbte, <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Jack Rothstein<\/strong><\/span> 1er violon, <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Trevor Williams<\/strong><\/span> 2nd violon, <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Nicolas Kraemer<\/strong><\/span> violon, <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Charles Tunnell<\/strong><\/span> 1st violoncelle,<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong> Fred Alexander<\/strong><\/span> 2nd violoncelle. On entre tout de suite dans le vif du sujet avec le morceau d&rsquo;ouverture <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u00ab\u00a0Three Score And Ten, Amen\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong><\/span> , des voix graves lancent le titre, suivi d&rsquo;une basse bondissante, et d&rsquo;une batterie qui descend les toms avec un son infernal. Les cuivres font leur apparition, le groupe est au complet. La guitare prend son chorus, agr\u00e9ment\u00e9 d&rsquo;une\u00a0superbe p\u00e9dale wah-wah. La batterie est en recherche de rythme constant,<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong> Hiseman<\/strong><\/span> assure un accompagnement fantastique. Le morceau se calme, une voix apparait, <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Dick Heckstall Smith\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>d\u00e9clame quelques vers, une respiration dans ce titre \u00e9chevel\u00e9, avant la reprise, et les\u00a0vocif\u00e9rations de <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Farlowe<\/strong><\/span>. Ce premier morceau est sacr\u00e9ment impressionnant, puissance, parfaite ma\u00eetrise de chaque musicien, technicit\u00e9 sans faille.
